Religion's hottest recipe to keep their followers believe in baloney is threat. Threat of hell fire and threat of killing and threat of end of times etc….
End of times have been favorite subject in all religions. Every religion make predictions and mostly saying that day of judgment is about to come …. End of times is here….. But fortunately all prophets and their predictions have been wrong.
Nowadays, again religion is creating phobia about end of times. Many Christian groups are predicting dates for end of times. These predictions are the part of the same baloney thinking which we have been witnessing since primitive times. As all other predictions were baseless these are again on the same baseless blind belief system.
Following is a view on historical predictions made by religions which have been proved wrong.
ca. 2800 BC
According to Isaac Asimov's Book of Facts (1979), an Assyrian clay tablet dating to approximately 2800 BC was unearthed bearing the words "Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common." This is one of the earliest examples of the perception of moral decay in society being interpreted as a sign of the imminent end.
634 BC
Apocalyptic thinking gripped many ancient cultures, including the Romans. Early in Rome's history, many Romans feared that the city would be destroyed in the 120th year of its founding. There was a myth that 12 eagles had revealed to Romulus a mystical number representing the lifetime of Rome, and some early Romans hypothesized that each eagle represented 10 years. The Roman calendar was counted from the founding of Rome, 1 AUC (ab urbe condita) being 753 BC. Thus 120 AUC is 634 BC. (Thompson p.19)
389 BC
Some Romans figured that the mystical number revealed to Romulus represented the number of days in a year (the Great Year concept), so they expected Rome to be destroyed around 365 AUC (389 BC). (Thompson p.19)
1st Century
Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." (Matthew 16:28) This implies that the Second Coming would return within the lifetime of his contemporaries, and indeed the Apostles expected Jesus to return before the passing of their generation.
ca. 70
The Essenes, a sect of Jewish ascetics with apocalyptic beliefs, may have seen the Jewish revolt against the Romans in 66-70 as the final end-time battle. (Source: PBS Frontline special Apocalypse!)

Bernard of Thuringia calculated that the end would come in 992 AD
The Feast of the Annunciation and Good Friday also coincided in 992, prompting some mystics to conclude that the world would end within 3 years of that date
The writings of the Burgundian monk Radulfus Glaber described a rash of millennial paranoia during the period from 1000-1033.
Various Christian prophets foresaw the Antichrist coming in 1184
John of Toledo, after calculating that a planetary alignment would occur in Libra on September 23, 1186 (Julian calendar)
Italian mystic Joachim of Fiore (1135-1202) determined that the Millennium would begin between 1200 and 1260
Pope Innocent III expected the Second Coming to take place in 1284, 666 years after the rise of Islam.
Followers of Joachim of Fiore (the Joachites) rescheduled the End to 1290 when his 1260 prophecy failed.
Another Joachite doomsday date was 1335 AD
Czech archdeacon Militz of Kromeriz claimed the Antichrist was alive and well and would manifest himself between 1363 and 1367. The End would come between 1365 and 1367
The Millennium would begin in 1368 or 1370, as foreseen by Jean de Roquetaillade, a French ascetic. The Antichrist was to come in 1366
Arnold of Vilanova, a Joachite, wrote in his work De Tempore Adventu Antichristi that the Antichrist was to come in 1378
Czech Doomsday prophet Martinek Hausha (Martin Huska) of the radical Taborite movement warned that the world would end in February 1420
A planetary alignment in Pisces was seen as a sign of the Millennium by astrologer Johannes Stoeffler. The world was to be destroyed by a flood on Feb 20, 1524 (Julian), Pisces being a water sign.
1525 AD: The beginning of the Millennium, according to Anabaptist Thomas Müntzer. Thinking that he was living at the "end of all ages,"
Stoeffler recalculated Doomsday to 1528 after his 1524 prediction failed
Reformer Hans Hut predicted the end would occur on Pentecost (May 27 1528, Julian calendar).
Frederick Nausea, a Viennese bishop, was certain that the world would end in 1532
In 1533, Anabaptist prophet Melchior Hoffman's prediction for the year of Christ's Second Coming, to take place in Strasbourg. He claimed that 144,000 people would be saved, while the rest of the world would be consumed by fire.
Mathematician Michael Stifel calculated that the Day of Judgement would begin at 8:00am on Oct 19, 1533.
Jan Matthys predicted that the Apocalypse would take place on Easter Day (April 5, 1534)
French astrologer Pierre Turrel announced four different possible dates for the end of the world, using four different calculation methods. The dates were 1537, 1544, 1801 and 1814

Martin Luther believed that the End would occur no later than 1600.
Using the kabbalah, Sabbatai Zevi, a rabbi from Smyrna, Turkey, figured that the Messiah would come in 1648, accompanied by miracles. The Messiah, of course, would be Zevi himself!
In 1578, physician Helisaeus Roeslin of Alsace, basing his prediction on a nova that occurred in 1572, foresaw the world ending in 1654 in a blaze of fire.
In his The Book of Prophecies, Christopher Columbus claimed that the world was created in 5343BC, and would last 7000 years. Assuming no year zero, that means the end would come in 1658. Columbus was influenced by Pierre d'Ailly
Joseph Mede, whose writings influenced James Ussher and Isaac Newton, claimed that the Antichrist appeared way back in 456, and the end would come in 1660
As this date is 1000 (millennium) + 666 (number of the Beast) and followed a period of war and strife in England, many Londoners feared that 1666 would be the end of the world. The Great Fire of London in 1666 did not help to alleviate these fears. (Schwartz p.87, Kyle p.67-68)
Sabbatai Zevi recalculated the coming of the Messiah to 1666. Despite his failed prophecies, he had accumulated a great many followers.
Deacon William Aspinwall, a leader of the Fifth Monarchy movement, claimed the Millennium would begin by this year 1673.
Drawing from theology and astrology, German prophet Johann Jacob Zimmerman determined that the world would end in the fall of 1694.
Zimmerman gathered a group of pilgrims and made plans to go to America to welcome Jesus back to Earth. However, he died in February of that year, on the very day of departure. Johannes Kelpius took over leadership of the cult, which was known as Woman in the Wilderness, and they completed their journey to the New World. Fall came and went and, needless to say, the cultists were profoundly disappointed at having traveled all the way across the Atlantic just to be stood up by Jesus.
Jacques (also Jakob I) Bernoulli, the first of a famous line of Swiss mathematicians who made their home in Berne, predicted the return of the comet of 1680 and earth-rending results therefrom. The comet did not come back, perhaps for astronomical reasons, but Bernoulli went on to discover a mathematical series now called the Bernoulli Numbers. He is renowned for this and for the eight exceptional mathematicians his line produced in three generations, but not for Doomsday nor for his astronomical calculations
Mystic/theologian/spiritist and supreme egocentric Emmanuel Swedenborg, ever willing to be a center of attention for one reason or another, decided after one of his frequent consultations with angels that 1757 was the terminating date of the world. To his chagrin, he was not taken too seriously by anyone, including the angels
When religious fanatic and soldier William Bell noticed that exactly twenty-eight days had elapsed between a February 8 and a March 8 earthquake in 1761, he naturally concluded that the entire world would crumble in another twenty-eight days, that is, on April 5th. Most suggested that the date should have been four days earlier, in tune with the probability, but many credulous Londoners believed him and snapped up every available boat, taking to the Thames or scurrying out of town as if those actions would save them. History records nothing more of Bell after April 6, when he was tossed into London's madhouse, Bedlam, by a disappointed public.
Astrologer Pierre Turrel (see 1537) chose 1801 date, along with three others, for The End. His first two had already failed by this time. Again, no luck.

William Miller, founder of the Millerite church, spent fifteen years in careful study of the scriptures and determined that the world would conclude sometime in 1843
In 1889, "America's Greatest Prophet," John Ballou Newbrough, said that for sure in 1947 everything will be vanished and end of time will come.
Interestingly enough, the conjunction of heavenly bodies that occurred back in 1524 was far, far more powerful than the more recent one described in a silly book titled The Jupiter Effect, written by two otherwise sensible astronomers who, in 1974, predicted dreadful effects on our planet as a result of a March 10, 1982, "alignment" of planets. Other astronomers denied that any effect would be felt, and when the date came and went, as you may have noticed, no one noticed. One of the authors reported that some earthquakes which had occurred in 1980 had been the "premature result of The Jupiter Effect," and the public yawned in amazement

2006-JAN-25: James Kingsley predicted a major "Earthquake Storm" near Los Angeles, CA. It was to start shortly after midnight of 2006-JAN-25, last for 2 hours, and be centered in Redondo Beach. The individual quakes range in magnitude from 7.1 to 7.9, and will be called "The Big One". 4
2006-MAY-25: Eric Julien of the Exopolitics Institute predicted that a remnant from a comet would hit the Atlantic ocean and generate massive tsunami almost 200 meters (650 feet) in height. Most heavily affected will be the Atlantic coasts between the equator and the Tropic of Cancer. He predicted that there will be tens of millions of deaths. North America and Europe was to be hit with less devastating tsunamis. Dozens of underwater volcanoes were to erupt, raising the temperature of the ocean to the boiling point. He based these predictions on a series of visions that he has had. 5
2006-JUN-06:
According to an E-mail that we received, the writer believes that "666," the number of the beast mentioned in the biblical book of Revelation, is really a date: 06/06/06 or 2006-JUN-6. He expected the rapture and start of the tribulation on that date.
A movie "The Beast" was released on this day. The story involves the discovery that Jesus Christ never existed. "The authors of the Gospels, writing 40 to 90 years after the supposed life of Christ, never intended for their works to be read as biographies." 6 The screen play involves apparently involves a momentous event in 2006-JUN-06 (6-6-06). What the event is is unclear. The staff have been sworn to secrecy. Nothing notable happened.
2006-AUG-22:
Glenn Beck, anchor for CNN Headline News, predicted on 2006-AUG-09 that AUG-22:
"... is the day that
Israel might be wiped off the map, leading to all-out Armageddon. ... [It] could be the day that
Agnostics get down on one knee and start to pray, 'Sweet Jesus, are you coming today'? "
When AUG-22 arrived without any sign of Armageddon, Beck responded to a critical E-mail from a viewer by saying:
"I wasn't predicting Armageddon today. ... We talked about the predictions of renowned Middle East scholar Bernard Lewis. It is amazing to me to be called a nut job for quoting a scholar who thinks we might expect aggressive behavior from a man who wants to wipe Israel off the map. I know. Sounds crazy! But, hey, who has time to actually listen?" 7
Bernard Lewis wrote in the Wall Street Journal on 2006-AUG-08:
"In Islam, as in Judaism and Christianity, there are certain beliefs concerning the cosmic struggle at the end of time--Gog and Magog, anti-Christ, Armageddon, and for Shiite Muslims, the long awaited return of the Hidden Imam, ending in the final victory of the forces of good over evil, however these may be defined. Mr. Ahmadinejad and his followers clearly believe that this time is now, and that the terminal struggle has already begun and is indeed well advanced. It may even have a date, indicated by several references by the Iranian president to giving his final answer to the U.S. about nuclear development by Aug. 22. This was at first reported as 'by the end of August,' but Mr. Ahmadinejad's statement was more precise."
"What is the significance of Aug. 22? This year, Aug. 22 corresponds, in the Islamic calendar, to the 27th day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427. This, by tradition, is the night when many Muslims commemorate the night flight of the prophet Muhammad on the winged horse Buraq, first to 'the farthest mosque,' usually identified with Jerusalem, and then to heaven and back (cf Koran XVII.1). This might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary of the world. It is far from certain that Mr. Ahmadinejad plans any such cataclysmic events precisely for [2006-]AUG-22. But it would be wise to bear the possibility in mind. 8
SEP-08/09:
The Lord's Witness and the True Bible Code predicted that a nuclear bomb will hit the UN plaza in Manhattan on the Sabbath, sometime between sundown on SEP-08 and sundown on SEP-09. This is the same group who predicted that the UN would take over the world sometime between 2001-MAR-26 and APR-24 and that a word-wide famine would being during 2001-SEP.
SEP-12: The
House of Yahweh issued a news release stating that nuclear war was to begin on SEP-12. The war would start around the
Euphrates River. Their leader, Yisrayl Hawkins, says that the countdown to the nuclear war began with the signing of the
Oslo accords on 1993-SEP-13. He interprets the Book of Daniel as stating that this is a seven year agreement but would take 14 years to be fully carried out. He interprets Revelation as implying that nuclear war would begin a year, a month and a day prior to the end of the
Oslo agreement. Hawkings has posted a

Eliezer Kamotho, an elder of the House of Yahweh group in Kenya, said that North Korea's nuclear bomb test on 2006-OCT-09 proved that a nuclear war was about to begin.
DEC-17:
Dr. Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda predicted that Jesus Christ's second coming would happen in Puerto Rico on DEC-17. His website stated, in part:
"Este 17 de diciembre, el mundo ser� testigo de la segunda venida de Cristo. El Rey de Reyes llega a suelo boricua. Puerto Rico ser� el escenario donde cientos de personas presenciar�n en vivo, mientras millones sintonizar�n v�a sat�lite, el evento que marcar� el rumbo de la historia."
A rough translation is:
"This December 17th the world will be a witness of the second coming of Christ. The king of kings will touch upon the boricuan [Hispanic] land. Puerto Rico will be the stage where hundreds of people will witness 'live' while millions will watch through satellite TV the event that will put a mark upon history." 10
It didn't happen either.
Now about recent end of time business
This time it not just perdition but its a big business. Many new books are being published, Movies are being made, and there are thousands of websites which are claiming to teach people to prepare for the Day of Judgment….. It’s a big business this time…. People being fooled again … and some clever people making big profits on it….
My advice you my friends is to enjoy you life as you have been…. And never try to quit your job J because nothing is going to change even after 21.12.2012…
World is not going to destroy but some books and websites will surely be faked out
